Backpack Policy

Point Isabel ISD is implementing a new measure in its ongoing commitment to creating safer schools. Starting from the 2024-2025 school year, all students will be required to use clear backpacks. Alternatively, mesh backpacks will also be allowed, although clear ones are preferred. Students can carry a small, nonclear pouch within their backpacks to hold personal items like cellphones, money, and hygiene products.

It is important to note that the clear backpack policy alone does not guarantee complete security. This proactive measure is just one of several updates aimed at improving student and campus safety.

Frequently Asked Questions for 2024-2025 School Year

Is there a specific size or shape for the backpack?
Clear or mesh backpacks for middle school can be about 12 inches wide by 16.5 inches tall and 5 inches deep and have zippered outer pockets.
Clear or mesh backpacks for high school students can be about 13 inches wide by 17.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches deep and have a zippered outer pocket.

How do clear or mesh backpacks contribute to safety?
By being able to easily see the items in the backpacks as students enter the school, campus personnel will be able to ensure that prohibited items are not included among the students’ belongings.
